The River walk
The Science Bldg in Jackson Park.  The only remaining structure from the 1893 worlds fair.  We sat in the parking lot and finished our audio version of the Devil in the White city.   A book about the Chicago’s world fair. Ferris introduced his family first “wheel”. Baskets that held hundreds of people at a time .  Cracker jacks & shredded wheat were introduced here.  Beware there is a dark side to this book.
They just spent 8 million renovating the park.  Onto Milwaukee!

The not so Windy City

The Dunes National Park campground... the last available site, nice and perfect for us.  
John uses the BBQ for the first time, cooking Bessie from the Abbott Farm😐

The camp host suggested we take the Siuth Shore Train into the city.  That was a great tip, riding the train was it’s own adventure.   
 
The Windy City aboard the Big Bus Hop on tour.  They tell us the “windy” comes from big billowed Politicians, not the wind!🌬


Do you recognize the fountain.  Love and marriage...the opening of that ridiculous show Married with Children.  The fountain erupts once an hour.   
Shopping and attractions on a huge pier on Lake Michigan.  Like a Big Ferris wheel🎡


At the top, 46 cars that seat 8 each.  A smooth ride, we didn’t even get sick🤮

The Bassilica was open and the organist was playing.  

Tulips must love the cold... they are everywhere back east.

Too bad the stadium was closed for construction. That’s ok we saw it and that allowed time for the art museum.

Coffee and danish in the library.

Why not, surely Notre Dame would have descent rental clubs.  (Not)

The trees, the biggest, the grass, the greenest.  The golf, the worstess😐. It was a great day, warm and sunny, and of course John now is in possession of a Notre Dame hat, shirt and coffee cup.  Onward to Chicago!

Don’t all our camping spots look the same; they all have that tree which of course I don’t know the name of 😬

100’s of motorhomes... we had no idea how many were made and how early they started making them.  1913!!! I thought living was just camping. 

They were all so interesting and had their own personalities.  You were allowed to go into most of them.

Just one case of the 4 model motorhomes....how fun, Ok I did want to play

Not sure this warrants its own blog but these cute little parks have beautiful plants and flowers just couldn’t pass it by. This wind mill came from 1933 ?Chicago’s worlds fair.

The Amish and the “ites”

We learned all about the Hutterites, Mennonitesand the Amish.  We encountered only kindness in all we met.  

The barn was built by an old fashioned “barn raising “ in a week, with no nails!

Not sure the hay per hour but a buggy cost a lot less than a car.  

Their horses are beautiful, old trotter race horses.  They do leave a trail behind them....

The grounds of Menno-Hof barn are so beautiful, we loved staying here.

I never found out the name oh this tree, maybe one of our readers can help out.

Hate to leave but the RV museum awaits!

A state closer to home

Mother’s day hike after church in Michigan.  So many wonderful little parks in each town.

The grass is greener on the other side!

All the homes have beautiful tulip gardens.  

I have seen these in other states, they are so fun.

Mercer is my grandson’s favorite... we have the grandma book, now grandpa is included. 😊

I guess something happened between 1889 and 2019... the Methodist Church is now a brewery😳



Onto  Shipshewana Indiana, Home of the Amish and now us.  We are guests if Harvest Hosts, allowing us to stay overnight, we are ready for the 10 AM tour!
